EU AI Act, Article 4
Article 4 asks employers to build AI literacy. Flow helps you show it.
Plain English, and no legal advice. If your people use AI at work, this is the part that applies to you.
- February 2025
- Article 4 applies across the EU.
- August 2026
- Each EU country can enforce it.
What the rule says
Employers must make a reasonable effort to give the people who use AI on their behalf enough understanding to use it sensibly. It covers what the tools are good at, where they go wrong, and what that means for the work in front of them. It applies to any company whose people use AI at work, not only to companies that build AI.
There is no certificate
Nobody issues an Article 4 certificate, and no course can hand you one. The European Commission's own questions and answers say as much. What a regulator, a customer, or a board asks for instead is evidence: what your people were asked, what they understood, and what you did about the gaps.
What a record looks like
Flow reads your own AI policy, turns the rules that matter into questions about real work, and asks everyone. You run it again on whatever cycle suits you, and each round gets its own page: how many answered, where each team stands, which rules hold in practice, and the first thing to fix. Every round is dated and kept, so the record grows instead of being rebuilt each time somebody asks.
What Flow does not claim
Flow does not make you compliant, and it does not prove anything on its own. It records what your teams know and helps you show the effort you made. Whether that effort is reasonable is a judgement for you, and in the end for a regulator.
